Not nominated, but thanks for the support
Cross-posted here, since many folks on my f-list are also on LJ.
As a followup to this post about LJ Advisory Board elections, I'd like to thank those who supported me, even though I was unsuccessful in my bid for nomination. Your support was much appreciated.
Should I decide to try again in future, I'll do my post earlier, since it took quite a while (almost 8 hours!) for it to be approved and unscreened by the LJ staff moderators so that people could leave comments in support of my nomination bid. My wibbling about throwing my hat in this year led to the late posting as well -- I'll make my decision, yea or nay, sooner.

Nominating myself for LJ user representative to the Advisory Board
Cross-posted here, since many folks on my f-list are also on LJ.
I must be daft, but I've tossed my hat in the ring to be the LJ user-rep to the Advisory Board. Nomination post not showing, since it's moderated, so I can't give a direct link to my entry. Go to lj_election_en to see it -- hopefully it will be viewable soon. Please leave a comment stating "I support this nomination" or something substantially similar to my nomination entry if you would like for me to be your voice to the people who run LiveJournal.
Edit (11:52am): Post is available now here.

My Beltaine present -- a new online journal to scribble in
Thanks to the fabulous lesyeuxverts, I now have a Dreamwidth journal. :D
Not sure what I'll do with it right now, but at least I have my usual username reserved. I know a lot of Harry Potter fandom folks have gone over there, so I expect I'll be looking some of them up in the near future.
Since that is currently a free account, I only have 6 userpic slots. I've used two of them already, for my default icon and another one that is suitable for most types of posts. Don't know yet if I'll add anymore at this time. Might depend on how I end up using that journal, what icons I use there.

Communities with content caught in IJ purge
IJ is currently in the middle of a username purge, for accounts they deem inactive since 1/01/08. (See posts here and here.) Asylums are also being deleted, even if they have content, such as dh_rewrite, which I think is wrong. And to boot, maintainers are having difficulty accessing their communities to try to un-delete them before the purge become permanent in a few days.
It's one thing to purge empty accounts, and another completely to purge those with content.
LiveJournal doesn't do that, but IJ does -- so really, which is the safer place for one's content, given this? Me, I'd say LiveJournal.
And now, more than ever, I'm glad I post my stories in full ONLY in my own journal -- where I don't have to worry so much about them poofing due to actions of others. ( squeaky says paid accounts are safe from being purged and this account is permanent.)

Writing Year in Review
I've seen a few folks doing these "year in review" posts about their writings over the past year, so I thought I'd do the same, since this was my most productive year so far since starting to write Potterverse fanfiction.
Here are the 2009 stats (not counting micro-fics or autodrabbles):
21539 words written in total 6 stories written 5 stories rated G-for-gen 4 stories with at least one main character who was a werewolf 4 stories with at least one main character who was a member of the Maurauders 3 stories with at least one main character who was a Malfoy 3 stories with at least one main character who was a member of the Trio 2 stories starring Fenrir Greyback 2 stories starring Severus Snape 2 stories starring Sirius Black 2 stories with at least one main character who was a house-elf 1 story rated Not Work Safe
By contrast, here are the 2007 stats:
9031 words written in total 3 stories written 3 stories rated Not Work Safe 3 stories with at least one main character who was a werewolf 3 stories with at least one main character who was a member of the Trio 3 stories starring Fenrir Greyback 1 story with at least one main character who was a house-elf 0 stories starring Severus Snape 0 stories starring Sirius Black 0 stories with at least one main character who was a Malfoy 0 stories with at least one main character who was a member of the Maurauders 0 stories rated G-for-gen
For comparison, here are the 2006 stats:
9380 words written in total 4 stories written 4 stories rated G-for-gen 2 stories with at least one main character who was a Malfoy 2 stories starring Severus Snape 0 stories starring Fenrir Greyback 0 stories starring Sirius Black 0 stories with at least one main character who was a werewolf 0 stories with at least one main character who was a member of the Trio 0 stories with at least one main character who was a house-elf 0 stories with at least one main character who was a member of the Maurauders 0 stories rated Not Work Safe
Looking at these numbers, I think it safe to say I'm mostly a gen writer, and when I do write NWS material, it is likely to star either a werewolf or a canine animagus.
No, I do not have a furry fetish. Really.

Potterverse Fic -- God Rest Ye Merry Werewolves
Title: God Rest Ye Merry Werewolves Author: Persephone Yavanna the Entwife Pairing/Characters: Harry, Fenrir, Hermione and Kreacher Wordcount: 3625 Rating: G for gen (in other words, completely work-safe!) Warnings: None Disclaimer: JK Rowling and assorted others have rights to create derivative works within the Potterverse, but I am not one of those licensees, unfortunately. Rather not be sued for playing with the characters, though . . . not making a profit here, just exploring the characters and situations created by the esteemed Ms. Rowling. Summary: Harry returns early from Christmas festivities at the Burrow Author Notes: Occurs after Wolf at the Door. The Yule Log is a NYC tradition, where commercial-free Christmas music is played on Christmas Eve by area stations -- the original TV station that started the tradition used to show a burning fireplace for the video portion of the show.

Fourth time is the charm for NaNoWriMo?

I've decided to try doing NaNoWriMo again, even though last year's effort was dismally inadequate. I have many more plot bunnies than I had this time last year, plus they've had time to simmer in the back burner of my brain for quite a few months, so I'm hoping I'll do better than last year. (It would be hard to do worse!) As I've done for the past two NaNoWriMos, I'll be writing Potterverse fics, a series of short stories, some of which will be connected to one another or to previously posted tales. At this point, it looks like most will star Fenrir Greyback, with several being Malfoy-family-centered. Some won't be though, since I want to add more to the "Contingencies" plot that I started during the 2006 NaNoWriMo and also the Snirius AU "Chewtoy" that has proved to be surprisingly popular among those who read me. I've been suffering the slow death of plot bunnies nibbling at me constantly for the past few months, while real-life swirled around me and made it difficult to concentrate long enough to write anything. This way at least I'll have a chance to clear out some of these untold tales that have been niggling at me for so many months. I have no clue as to whether or not I'll hit the 50,000 word mark by the target date of November 30th, but at least I'll feel better with less of a backlog to deal with. For those who wish to follow my progress, my author page is here.

A Fenmione auto-drabble
I blame foudebassan for this -- she introduced me to the auto-drabbler and suggested I put Fenrir in as one of the characters. It came out surprisingly coherent, so I thought I'd share the silliness. (Especially since the holidays are rapidly approaching.)
I Saw Hermione Kissing Santa Claus
Fenrir woke up in the middle of the night. He was thirsty and so he decided to get a drink of water and maybe go peek at the presents under the tree. Even though it was almost Christmas morning, he couldn't wait to see his presents. There was one laconic box that looked like a book.
Then Fenrir noticed that Hermione was out of bed too. She must not have been able to wait for her presents either.
Fenrir thought that he would surprise Hermione. Maybe even sneak up behind her and lick her on her musical tongue. That always made Hermione opalescent.
Fenrir crept joyously down the stairs and into the living room. There was the tree, with its effervescent lights, and the presents, heaped up ferociously, and the mistletoe hanging from the ceiling, and Hermione. Kissing someone.
Fenrir was so angry, he picked up a bunny slipper from a table and threw it gloriously on the floor.
They both looked around.
"Hermione, you lupine wolf!" Fenrir yelled. "How could you cheat on me with...with..." Fenrir looked and then rubbed his finger and looked again. It was Santa Claus.
"Let me explain," Hermione said. "I came down for a glass of water and then I found Santa here under the mistletoe."
"Ho! Ho! Ho!" Santa said. "So of course she had to give me a kiss. And what a tasty kiss it was."
"Well, I suppose," Fenrir said snarkily. "If he was under the mistletoe."
"Ho! Ho! Ho!" Santa said. "Why don't you give me a kiss too? Then things will be intelligent."
That seemed reasonable. Fenrir went over under the mistletoe and kissed Santa.
Santa was the best kisser ever, like a fish needs a bicycle. He made Fenrir's tooth feel all vapid.
"You see?" Hermione said lovingly and Fenrir saw. So they had a threeway.
Everybody's presents were late.

For brevity is the soul of wit . . .
I think I'd like to start a meme here on IJ/LJ.
Write a micro-fic -- a story in just six words. (You can see some examples here.)
Post it in a comment here and in your own journal.
It'll be fun to see what folks come up with, within a form even more constrained than the drabble.
Here are two I wrote:
Fenrir picked his teeth, saying, “Yummy . . .”
Fenrir isn’t fussy — he enjoys nomming.
Edited to add another:
"Tofu again?" Fenrir asked Hermione, aghast.

Member of the twittering flock
I've joined Twitter, like quite a few folks here on LJ & IJ. Not sure how much I'll actually use it, but I thought I'd join everyone else. Not sure yet how folks get the twitters to show on their posts yet -- I'll figure it out soon enough, I guess. For now my twitters are friends-only, so if you're on my friends-list here and are also on Twitter, let me know so I can do whatever it is one does to make my twitters appear for you. Here's my Twitter page. (Not sure how many IJ folks will be interested in this, since quite a few are here just for the ficcage and this is likely to be more real-life oriented.)

Fenmione -- for MEEEEEEEE!!!!! :D
iulia_linnea wrote me an absolutely scrumptious ficlet, Training a Pet, as a consolation prize of sorts for having bid in her auction for Live Long And Marry but not succeeded as the winning bidder.
This is a very in-character Fenrir, full of rage and resentment at not receiving the respect he feels is his due, and what he does in order to get it. I loved the subtle power dynamics of the relationship too and how she approched my prompt, "Fenrir wears bunny-slippers."
Yay for Fenmione! :F

Potterverse Fic Reading -- Puppy Pile
Spurred on by a post by the_con_cept, I decided to do a reading of my fic Puppy Pile which can be heard here. It was my first time using the audio recorder that comes with Windows, so I hit a few snags, namely that the recording changes volume about 2/3 through. I may try re-recording it and re-uploading it sometime in the future, but for now that's how it stays.
So now you all know what I sound like. :)
I'm also going to offer fic-reading for the Live Long and Marry fandom auction. You can bid on my offering here.

I'm a nominee!

I'm now an official nominee for The New Library Awards in the category "Best Gen Humour" for my story Poisson d'Avril. The voting has now started -- you vote by screened comment to this post, but it's important to read the rules, or your vote won't count. (Those without LJs can vote by email, BTW) One of these rules is in each category, please list two (no more, no less) stories that you would like to see win. The list of nominees is here, with my competition fellow nominees in the humour category listed here. Voting ends at midnight (EST) on July 12th, so I hope folks go by before then and vote. Comments eaten again -- for a THIRD time
I just discovered most of my fics have AGAIN lost all their comments. (As well as quite a few non-fic posts.) This is the third time this has happened and the second and third time some of them have lost all comments.
IJ certainly seems to have it in for A Tasty Little Crumpet, since it was one of the posts that has had all comments et three times. And Fenrir too, since all save one of his tales got hit by comment rot.
This really is too much. Three strikes and you're out. I am beyond disgusted with the lack of proper fuctionality here -- and I know others are too, even if they don't care to say it publicly.
300 icons be damned. LiveJournal for all its faults at least WORKS.
For now I'll cross-post to here, but my main fic journal will be on LiveJournal. Please friend me there if you have a LiveJournal and want to read the stories I write, since I'm fed up with this place and may well stop crossposting here completely if this comment rot keeps up.

Potterverse Fic -- A Boy and His Wolf
This piece has been written for HP Thematic Fanfiction Challenge's Round 10 - D/s and BDSM fest. It is also a prezzie for rakina, since she loves Remus/Harry and she was kind enough to send me something recently.
Title: A Boy and His Wolf Author: Persephone Yavanna the Entwife Pairing/Characters: Harry, Remus and Hagrid Wordcount: 2818 Rating: G for gen (in other words, completely work-safe!) Warnings: None, although some domination/submission is part of the story Disclaimer: JK Rowling and assorted others have rights to create derivative works within the Potterverse, but I am not one of those licensees, unfortunately. Rather not be sued for playing with the characters, though . . . not making a profit here, just exploring the characters and situations created by the esteemed Ms. Rowling. Summary: Written for the prompt The 'pet' allowed to Hogwarts students is a 'modified' human slave, trained to serve his or her owner personally, at first as an assistant which can include personal servant, tutor or nursing roles, then later as the wizard or witch's first lover. Harry receives the pet his parents had bought for him when Hagrid brings him to Gringotts for the first time Author Notes: This is technically pre-slash, although no real slashing occurs since this is taking place before Harry enters Hogwarts.

I've been nominated for an award!
I just found out my story Poisson d'Avril has been nominated for the first round of The New Library Awards in the category "Best Gen Humour".
I'm really happy about this, as you can imagine, since I've never gotten an award for my writing and I'm glad someone liked my writing enough to have nominated me. (Many thanks to whoever did that!)
The nomination needs to be seconded, however, before I can be in the general voting, so I'm hoping some nice person on my f-list will second the nomination of my story. (You can do that here.)
