IJ is currently in the middle of a username purge, for accounts they deem inactive since 1/01/08. (See posts here and here.) Asylums are also being deleted, even if they have content, such as
dh_rewrite, which I think is wrong. And to boot, maintainers are having difficulty accessing their communities to try to un-delete them before the purge become permanent in a few days.
It's one thing to purge empty accounts, and another completely to purge those with content.
LiveJournal doesn't do that, but IJ does -- so really, which is the safer place for one's content, given this? Me, I'd say LiveJournal.
And now, more than ever, I'm glad I post my stories in full ONLY in my own journal -- where I don't have to worry so much about them poofing due to actions of others. (
squeaky says paid accounts are safe from being purged and this account is permanent.)
