My Beltaine present -- a new online journal to scribble in
Thanks to the fabulous lesyeuxverts, I now have a Dreamwidth journal. :D
Not sure what I'll do with it right now, but at least I have my usual username reserved. I know a lot of Harry Potter fandom folks have gone over there, so I expect I'll be looking some of them up in the near future.
Since that is currently a free account, I only have 6 userpic slots. I've used two of them already, for my default icon and another one that is suitable for most types of posts. Don't know yet if I'll add anymore at this time. Might depend on how I end up using that journal, what icons I use there.

Writing Year in Review
I've seen a few folks doing these "year in review" posts about their writings over the past year, so I thought I'd do the same, since this was my most productive year so far since starting to write Potterverse fanfiction.
Here are the 2009 stats (not counting micro-fics or autodrabbles):
21539 words written in total 6 stories written 5 stories rated G-for-gen 4 stories with at least one main character who was a werewolf 4 stories with at least one main character who was a member of the Maurauders 3 stories with at least one main character who was a Malfoy 3 stories with at least one main character who was a member of the Trio 2 stories starring Fenrir Greyback 2 stories starring Severus Snape 2 stories starring Sirius Black 2 stories with at least one main character who was a house-elf 1 story rated Not Work Safe
By contrast, here are the 2007 stats:
9031 words written in total 3 stories written 3 stories rated Not Work Safe 3 stories with at least one main character who was a werewolf 3 stories with at least one main character who was a member of the Trio 3 stories starring Fenrir Greyback 1 story with at least one main character who was a house-elf 0 stories starring Severus Snape 0 stories starring Sirius Black 0 stories with at least one main character who was a Malfoy 0 stories with at least one main character who was a member of the Maurauders 0 stories rated G-for-gen
For comparison, here are the 2006 stats:
9380 words written in total 4 stories written 4 stories rated G-for-gen 2 stories with at least one main character who was a Malfoy 2 stories starring Severus Snape 0 stories starring Fenrir Greyback 0 stories starring Sirius Black 0 stories with at least one main character who was a werewolf 0 stories with at least one main character who was a member of the Trio 0 stories with at least one main character who was a house-elf 0 stories with at least one main character who was a member of the Maurauders 0 stories rated Not Work Safe
Looking at these numbers, I think it safe to say I'm mostly a gen writer, and when I do write NWS material, it is likely to star either a werewolf or a canine animagus.
No, I do not have a furry fetish. Really.

Fourth time is the charm for NaNoWriMo?

I've decided to try doing NaNoWriMo again, even though last year's effort was dismally inadequate. I have many more plot bunnies than I had this time last year, plus they've had time to simmer in the back burner of my brain for quite a few months, so I'm hoping I'll do better than last year. (It would be hard to do worse!) As I've done for the past two NaNoWriMos, I'll be writing Potterverse fics, a series of short stories, some of which will be connected to one another or to previously posted tales. At this point, it looks like most will star Fenrir Greyback, with several being Malfoy-family-centered. Some won't be though, since I want to add more to the "Contingencies" plot that I started during the 2006 NaNoWriMo and also the Snirius AU "Chewtoy" that has proved to be surprisingly popular among those who read me. I've been suffering the slow death of plot bunnies nibbling at me constantly for the past few months, while real-life swirled around me and made it difficult to concentrate long enough to write anything. This way at least I'll have a chance to clear out some of these untold tales that have been niggling at me for so many months. I have no clue as to whether or not I'll hit the 50,000 word mark by the target date of November 30th, but at least I'll feel better with less of a backlog to deal with. For those who wish to follow my progress, my author page is here.

For brevity is the soul of wit . . .
I think I'd like to start a meme here on IJ/LJ.
Write a micro-fic -- a story in just six words. (You can see some examples here.)
Post it in a comment here and in your own journal.
It'll be fun to see what folks come up with, within a form even more constrained than the drabble.
Here are two I wrote:
Fenrir picked his teeth, saying, “Yummy . . .”
Fenrir isn’t fussy — he enjoys nomming.
Edited to add another:
"Tofu again?" Fenrir asked Hermione, aghast.

Awards post followup
I thought I'd do a followup to this post about my having a story nominated for an award.
I didn't get it.
Thank you to those who nominated and seconded me and to those who voted for my story -- it was much appreciated by myself.

I'm a nominee!

I'm now an official nominee for The New Library Awards in the category "Best Gen Humour" for my story Poisson d'Avril. The voting has now started -- you vote by screened comment to this post, but it's important to read the rules, or your vote won't count. (Those without LJs can vote by email, BTW) One of these rules is in each category, please list two (no more, no less) stories that you would like to see win. The list of nominees is here, with my competition fellow nominees in the humour category listed here. Voting ends at midnight (EST) on July 12th, so I hope folks go by before then and vote. I've been nominated for an award!
I just found out my story Poisson d'Avril has been nominated for the first round of The New Library Awards in the category "Best Gen Humour".
I'm really happy about this, as you can imagine, since I've never gotten an award for my writing and I'm glad someone liked my writing enough to have nominated me. (Many thanks to whoever did that!)
The nomination needs to be seconded, however, before I can be in the general voting, so I'm hoping some nice person on my f-list will second the nomination of my story. (You can do that here.)

So now I'm on JournalFen too . . .
Thanks to red_day_dawning, I now have a JournalFen journal.
Not sure what I'll do with this one just yet, but it's nice to have. If you know me on IJ or LJ, feel free to say hi over there.

And now I've had my posting access removed as well as my post . . .
As a follow-up to my prior post, the mod deleted the post and has also decided to remove my posting access. That was completely unnecessary, since I could have posted a link to unlocked G-for-gen fic housed here and still been within that community's rules.
This only confirms my reasons for not wanting to post my fics in their entirety to any community.

I have good reasons for what I do
Just got a set of comments from from the mod of a community I posted an entry to that had a link to Wolf at the Door. She told me I had to post the entire story to the community, or my post would be removed.
So I guess it's going to be removed, even though I'd explained to a prior commentor why I had an f-locked post in an f-locked community. (That explanation being that that community is not the only one to which I made a post about this tale which is housed on my personal IJ and some of these communities do NOT have age-restricted membership. On my profile I give the IJ FAQ # and TOS section that form one of the reasons I f-lock my stories rated higher than G-for-gen. My stories are posted in full ONLY in my personal IJ, NOT in any communities. Communities only get a link to the post -- which is an f-locked one if it contains NWS material.)
As an author, I want to have control over where my fiction shows up and when I post to a community, I don't, since the mod can remove posting access from me at any time. If I do not have posting access, then I cannot edit the post. So if I decided to remove the story, I cannot. If I wanted to remove the story and put in a link to it, I cannot. If I want to change a typo, I cannot.
THAT is why I post ONLY to my own journal. I refuse to allow someone else the power of who can and cannot see my fic, especially if said fic contain NWS material.
I have VERY good real-life reasons for restricting the access to my adult fiction. If someone cannot respect that, well, so be it.
It would have been nice to have posted further parts to that storyline to that community, but it seems that's not going to be happening, now or in the future.

I'm reviving my fiction LiveJournal
After the fiasco of having more than half the posts here lose all their comments and all but ONE story lose all the squee that had been posted, I've decided to start using my fiction LiveJournal again.
I wish now I'd coughed up the cash for that account to be permanent, but at the time the sale occurred I'd wibbled and instead bought an InsaneJournal permanent account, which right now looks like a complete waste of cash, given the repeated problems with the site. The only good thing here was having 300 iconses to play with, but if they sell permanent accounts there again, I'll get lots more icons to play with then. I can be patient . . .
So expect to see me reposting my ficcage there, including the gen stories that were originally housed at my original and main LiveJournal, just because I'd like to have all my stories in one place. I haven't decided yet if I'll have the gen stories be public or if I'll f-lock them too.
I also haven't decided yet if I'll abandon my IJ or not. There are a few IJ fests I'd said I would write things for and I'd rather not reneg on those tales. There are also a few writers who now post either mainly or exclusively to InsaneJournal, so I'll likely keep using it, at least for commenting, since I paid for the damn thing already and I'd like to get SOME use out of it. I also haven't decided if new works will be posted on LJ only (where frankly they have a wider potential audience) or if I will cross-post them to my IJ.
Decisions, decisions, decisions . . .

So very, very, very NOT a NaNoWriMo winner . . .
Due to various real-life stuffage and my Fenrir-muse taking an extended romp through the Forbidden Forest, I really haven't written anything since the first day of NaNoWriMo. The site being balky and not letting me in to post my word-counts helped derail me at the beginning, then other stuff came up and . . . and . . . and . . .
I guess I'm just not good at writing to a schedule.

How You Know You're Reading a Fic by Persephone
Gakked from innerslytherin:
10. It has at least one Death Eater in it
9. If it has only one werewolf in it, there is a 99.9999% chance it's Fenrir
8. Male characters are bi in orientation (even if their main relationship is hetero and they generally prefer females)
7. Married couples are open to adding another male for threesomeness fun
6. There is an age-gap relationship (usually between an older woman and a younger man)
5. The Malfoy family is loving and takes good care of its friends
4. Fenrir enjoys making the first move -- and the other person likes that about him
3. The men enjoy fem-dom
2. The Death Eaters look out for one another and treat one another well
1. Someone has a secret (or not-so-secret) thing for werewolves, bondage or licorice (and often all three)

A slow start to NaNo
As mentioned in a previous post, I'm doing NaNoWriMo this year, continuing and expanding A Tasty Little Crumpet. I wrote a little bit of this new section earlier in the evening and had the devil's own time trying to get into the NaNo site to upload my excerpt and word count. It took me an hour to get into my profile, which meant yesterday's wordcount got posted as today's, since midnight had passed while I waited for access to the site. I had a whole 95 words written at that point, since upped to 252.
I could include the finished wordcount of the story I'm expanding in my total, but I won't -- at least, not until the end of NaNo, especially if it will nudge me over the 50k word mark. I don't think I'll get anywhere near that, but it is theoretically possible I might "win", albeit unlikely. I'm mostly using NaNo as a way to nudge myself to work faster than I usually do. (Lame snail, mostly.)
I didn't see any of those little wordcount widgets on the site, nor the day-by-day progress chart. I like those and I wish they were back. I enjoyed seeing the little meter increase and showing it off in my blog. It's a trivial thing, but I do miss it.

Crumpet on the menu in future
I'd been flip-floppy about doing it this year, but rakina's jumping into the NaNoWriMo waters nudged me into deciding to do it this year as well.
I've decided to expand A Tasty Little Crumpet into a longer story. Not quite sure if I can pull 50k words out of the tale, even with an almost-1000-word head-start, but at least doing NaNo will push me a bit towards completing the story. I'm trying to make it canon-compliant, including epilogue-compliant, but that means having to deal with Ron, a character that I'm not exactly fond of in canon and even less so in fanon. The upside is the potential to write a little Bill/Fleur.
It also means that I will be going into some dark places when I write, since there will be some squicky bits. I'm also dithering a bit about some of the overall plot arc, mostly because of Ron and how he will react to some of the situations that the Fenrir/Hermione dynamic will create. One of the few good things about DH was how Rowling made her characters behave, compared to the previous books, so even if I make a mess of the characterizations, I can't be as OOC as the author herself. </snark>
I've updated my NaNoWriMo profile, but was dismayed to find last year's info for "Contingencies" gone. I'd have preferred that there be some kind of archive, but that isn't the case, and I've found pretty much all the links I'd used in my LJ entries about being in NaNo last year are 404-ed. :-/
Have I mentioned how much I hate broken links?
Well, I guess I'll have to think of this as getting a blank sheet of paper, ready for the 2007 challenge . . .

Not dead -- just busy writing
If any one has been wondering why I've been so quiet lately, it's been because I've been busy with writing ficcage, as well as running my business in Second Life. Those two things tend to suck up a fair amount of my free time.
I'll be having a few entries posted soon in dh_rewrite with Fenrir Greyback in a starring role. I'm also working on a gen-fic for luciusfqf. There will be more in the Fenrir/Hermione story too -- possibly tied into one of the afore-mentioned Fenrir-fics. Since these are fest-fics, they will be exclusive to those communities as well as here, until the mods allow cross-posting in other communities, so werewolf-lovers might want to add dh_rewrite to the list of communities they watch, since there are other folks writing werewolf stories there. (One even took a prompt I had my beady little eye on, before I could snag it.)

Under attack by were-bunnies
I'm being nibbled at constantly by Fenrir!plotbunnies, so expect to see more in the Fenrir/Hermione story A Tasty Little Crumpet, as well as Fenrir/Tonks and most likely some Snape/Fenrir and/or Snape/Fenrir/Draco.
I find it a bit odd, though, since I'm more into vampires than werewolves -- plus I wear tons of silver, so I'd think that alone would keep the were-bunnies at bay . . .

Pease porridge on the menu here
Pease porridge hot, Pease porridge cold, Pease porridge in the pot, Nine days old; Some like it hot, Some like it cold, Some like it in the pot, Nine days old.I've decided to repost the fics I had originally on LJ here before putting up newer work, so you may see a few things you've read before. Although since they were posted originally in December of 2006, it's quite possible that you might have missed them, with the holidays and all the holiday fests going on then. (There are also folks on my flist here at IJ who weren't over at LJ, so these may be new to you as well.) They are all from a current WIP titled "Contingencies" (after the plot-mainspring fic that hasn't been finished yet) and are presented as fics that can stand alone if need be, but should be read in order, since they make up a larger story arc. There will be more stories set in the "Contingencies" universe (which at this point is very canon-compliant), but they may not necessarily be posted in story-order. There will also be stories posted here in another series (yet to be named) wherein Harry is raised by the Malfoy family -- with Severus' assistance. So AU will be showing up as well. ~~ hopes folks don't mind having leftovers while the kitchen is busy preparing future meals ~~

Welcome to my Insane Journal!
Welcome to my new journal, where I will be posting fanfiction I've written, as well as links to any fandom-related essays I have written in my LiveJournal, where some of these stories have shown up before. Because of the current LiveJournal policies, I've decided to post my scribblings here and only use links from my LiveJournal to the actual stories hosted here on InsaneJournal.
I opened up this account a few weeks back, when LiveJournal management showed poor judgement once again and made it quite clear that certain content of a fannish nature was no longer welcome on their servers. I haven't created content myself of that nature in the past, but I disliked the stifling atmosphere these corporate decisions engendered. I therefore decided to join the mass exodus of fandom here to the livelier (if more orange) shores of InsaneJournal, since I had little desire to see all four of my LiveJournals (including the permanent one) zapped by The Powers That Be because some idiot decides that writing a story about 18+ Hermione is a problem because in part of the Harry Potter series she is under 18. (For those who are unaware, LiveJournal staff decided for themselves that the characters were underage, despite creators' statements that the characters were adults in the pieces in question, and killed all LiveJournals those users had, including permanent ones -- even the G-rated cooking journals were deemed too risque for LiveJournal to continue to host them. Perhaps they found the food porn too arousing there? Ooooooo -- the erotic possibilities inherent in moussaka!!!! Especially when slathered in rich, creamy bechemel . . . )
I've been fiddling with settings and uploading a few userpics, although not as many as I could, since I bought a permanent account when I signed up here. (I'd like to think this site will stay around for a while and given the number of years I've had writings up on the web, I'm sure I will be posting here for quite a bit of time, so it seemed a good bargain.) I still don't have things the way I'd like, but at least it's GREEN now, not orange and gray. :P
I'll still be tweaking the look-and-feel of this journal for a while, but for now, it's . . . adequate . . .
As for things to expect to see here, well -- there will be ficcage and goodly amounts of it too. And there will be Potterverse ficcies in both canon-compliant as well as AU varieties, althought I reserve the right at some future time to include other fandoms. Expect to see a lot of Slytherins and Death Eaters about and be prepared to see alternate views of them, since I believe that even the most black-hearted villain is still a person. To quote an old Sting song, "Even Russians love their children too."
So don't expect Harry-centric stories here, or ones from his point of view or with his attitudes. They might pop up from time to time, but I freely admit to not being a fan of Rowling's Harry as a character -- frankly, I don't think he's all that nice, not after the first book or so.
I also tend to write gen and G rated stories, so if you're just here looking for naughty bits, well I'm afraid you might be rather disappointed. I do write more adult fare occasionally, when I feel the story warrants it, but it isn't the focus of my writing. There will be some, but not as public posts, so if you absolutely must read it, I direct you to this post, where you may leave a comment stating that you are over 18 and wish to read my stories, even the non-worksafe ones, and I shall add you to the list of readers with access to those tales.
